Toronto, Ontario - To cool large office buildings in the downtown area, the city of Toronto called upon Enwave who, in turn, required Hanson’s capabilities and expertise.

Challenge

Enwave was charged with creating a sophisticated heating and cooling system for a large portion of downtown Toronto. This called for a unique application of concrete pressure pipe.Solution

Solution

The complex nature of the underground downtown utilities required custom designed and manufactured fittings, and a completely maintenance-free service and distribution system. Hanson received the order to supply AWWA C301 PCCP for the first phase.

Result

This successful installation was the first phase for the distribution system. The corporation is considering an alternative system—an eco-friendly process which would use 85% less energy—for future expansion.
